I own a mid sized Ca. trucking company with an excellent reputation for timely payment to carriers. Our terms per our Subhaul A greement are net 30 days upon receipt of paperwork into our office, generally we are much quicker.
Recently we gave a load to a new independant owner op who signed our subhaul agreement. Upon delivery, he held the load hostage insisting on COD which of course our dispatch refused to accomodate. WE then called the CHP to report the laod as stolen. The CHP naturally did not want to get off their ass because no speeding ticket was involved. They insisted this was a civil
issue. My customer ended up writing the idiot a check and is paying us the balance just to make him go away.
Naturally, we will never use this outfit again. But
we'd like to see what we need to do, i.e. how to report this next time, to get swift action by the authorities and get the matter treated like the theft or embezzlement that it is.
Any suggestions?
